Logo Design

Custom logos for your business, product or campaign

So… how do you design a logo?

Logo design is a collaborative process between the client and designer! The process kicks off with the client talking and me listening: to learn about your business, your goals, and your style preferences. Some people know what they want right away, and others will “know it when I see it.”

The creative process.

The process of designing a logo taps into both sides of our brain.  The “left-brain” elements are the feelings evoked by fonts, colors, and style, and often these elements are tricky to describe with words. Sometimes looking at other company’s logos,  adding ideas to a Pinterest board or a quick Google Images search can be a helpful step to jumpstart the inspiration.

The “right-brain” elements are the practical elements that make a logo readable, scalable, and adaptable to various orientations and uses. I imagine your logo on company letterhead, on a t-shirt, on your website or high above the freeway on a billboard. Then I choose colors, imagery, and fonts that work together to create a memorable mark that has instant impact.

What’s possible? Logo design ideas.

Miller Design-Build

  • I presented four initial concepts to get the visualization and idea process flowing.
  • As a home builder, Dave was comfortable sketching designs for clients, so it was natural for him to draw out his unique logo ideas on paper.
  • I transformed his sketch into digital form to create a new logo, business cards, a yard sign, and truck decals.
  • Colors: orange + silver + black

Oconomowoc Area Chamber of Commerce

Through the process of discovery, I worked collaboratively with the Chamber director and volunteer board to design a new, modern brand and tagline for the chamber.

  • Colors: blue (Pantone 285) + orange (Pantone 143)
    • Blue – indicates business interests
    • Orange – signals the creativity and energy of the community
  • Graphic – creates a visual connection between the two key audiences
  • Tagline – “Where business connects,” creates a verbal connection between these two audiences. The tagline also describes the organization’s goal, which is to create beneficial relationships among members as well as between the organization and the community.

Re-Branding: Wisconsin School Public Relations Association (WSPRA)

For this re-branding project, I worked with WSPRA’s volunteer board to develop a new logo and tagline for the state-wide association.  The board wanted to hone in on the association’s true purpose and discover what benefits were most important to members. Design services provided by Nathan Chow/Foundry.

My role in the re-branding process to facilitating in-depth strategy sessions with the board, conducting a membership survey, and providing creative direction and collaborating with a talented graphic designer.
